Friends of Hendricks County Animal Shelter had a surplus of cat supplies and generously donated pallets of cat supplies to Blackford County Animal Shelter. The shelter received much needed cat litter, cat food and dog and cat treats to care for the animals at the shelter. The shelter uses large amounts of litter due to the number of cats that currently reside at BCAS and is a huge daily expense. Receiving free litter allows the shelter to direct funds to other expenses, such as medicine and vet care. BCAS is very grateful for this donation and all of it will go to the care of the animals residing at Blackford County Animal Shelter. Donations are crucial to the shelter. Blackford County Animal Shelter will begin collecting aluminum cans in a drop box at the shelter starting this spring. A lot of shelters currently collect cans to help with funding. BCAS hopes that the cans will bring in enough funds to supplement the shelter all year long. The drop box is in the process of being constructed and painted and will be placed on the shelter grounds. When the box is ready, we will ask everyone to please bring cans out and place them in the box for recycling. Recycling is a great way to keep our environment free of waste and raise funds to care for more animals. Please start saving all your cans now and tell your friends. More information to come soon...
It is Petsmart's National Adoption Week and BCAS will have many cats and kittens at Petsmart available for adoption during the adoption event. Dogs will also be part of the adoption event and will be there on the weekend. Watch our Facebook for posts about our dogs. See a dog that you would like to meet on our adoption page? Reach out to us and will do our best to bring that dog to the event. Looking to adopt but not sure which pet is right for you? Get pre-approved prior to the event by filling out and submitting an online application.
We want to share with you how the Blackford United Way helps us help you. The Blackford United Way give us the grants to help provide assistance to low income families of Blackford County who want to have their pets spayed/neutered. They also assist in grants for the TNR (Trap Neuter Release) program to help control the feral cat population. Feral Cats are a problem everywhere and is an on going battle. The Blackford United Way has started their 2022 campaign and need people donating to their cause so they can continue to help our shelter.
