About Us


The Blackford County Animal Shelter, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We provide animal control for Blackford County, Hartford City, and Shamrock Lakes.  We no longer accept animals from the Montpelier City Limits as decided by The City of Montpelier.  For more information about animal control in Montpelier click here.
Our mission is to provide temporary shelter, care, and medical attention for stray, surrendered, or otherwise homeless cats and dogs in Blackford County, to prevent animal cruelty and neglect and prosecute offenders, to strengthen the human-animal bond through education and adoption, and to promote the importance of spaying and neutering to help control pet overpopulation.
Our shelter is full of wonderful cats and dogs waiting for you to come and take them home!
