Buttermilk came to BCAS in August of 2017 at 3 months old. She was very standoffish and did not enjoy human company at all. She was ok with hanging out with the other cats in the large playroom but if a stranger came in to meet kitties she would just hide. This is why she was at our shelter for so long.
In March of 2023, BCAS began a program to help get long term cats adopted. Robin, an approved adopter, came to the shelter and met Buttermilk. Buttermilk was very timid and was just not the cat that Robin was looking for. Robin was leery to adopt Buttermilk because of her age and that she was not going to be able to declaw her. Robin left the shelter without Buttermilk.
Robin was still considering getting a pet and after taking some time to think about it, Robin came back to the shelter and took Buttermilk home on a foster-to-adopt status certain that this cat was not going to be “the one”. To read more about Buttermilk's story click here.
Benji is riding away with Beans Beagle Rescue. They are a rescue out of Southern California who had someone in Ohio that was part of their organization who saw our post and was willing to come meet Benji and access his situation. On March 13th, 5 weeks after our post, Benji was loaded up and headed to a new life full of love and attention! Benji currently can be found lounging on the couch, romping with his new best friends and getting belly rubs on a regular basis.
Thank you, Ashley of Beans Beagle Rescue, for accepting Benji into your pack and home and giving him the chance that he so much needed. If anyone is interested in adopting Benji after his training, you can reach out to their rescue at www.beansbeagles.org. To read Benji's full story click here.
Here's an update from Layla: Wow am I a lucky girl! I was the Terrier mix that spent 656 days at the shelter. Well, I finally got my dream home. I have no other pet siblings to share the love with. It is all about me! I get to go to work with my dog dad and meet all kinds of people. I am a people dog so it is a great fit for me. My new dog dad says I am extra special and spoils me everyday. He wants everyone to know that shelter pets make the best pets! He asks that anyone who is looking for a new furry friend to adopt from a shelter and look at the long term pets that have been overlooked. I was overlooked for almost 2 years and now I have the best life!
Hi it's Tenor. Remember me? The loveable TWC hound that spent a lot of his life at the shelter? I came to the shelter as a stray in November of 2019. I was adopted out several times and returned shortly after. For some reason I just could not fit in with the families that had adopted me. I spent approx. 2 years at BCAS in my kennel waiting for the right family. It wasn't all bad during those 2 years. I got to attend many adoption events and social events like our local Trunk or Treat and got to meet kids and hand out candy! I knew BCAS was working really hard to get me out of the shelter and into a home. They did an urgent post on Facebook to get me a home before Christmas. You might of seen it? I received so many applications that the shelter was overwhelmed. After working many applications, I finally got my family and went home on 12/19/2021. I was home before Christmas! There was tears of happiness when I walked through the shelter doors for the last time. You see that handsome Coonhound on the left? Well that is me with my new pal and I am off living my best life!
MEOW from Sola. Hard to believe that's me on the right enjoying a cozy bed by the fire. I entered the shelter in December of 2017. I had a short term adoption in 2018 and was returned after a few months because I didn't fit in. I spent the rest of my days, 1028 days to be exact, living in the west hallway at the shelter. By this time I was 10 years with no hope of a family in site. I became depressed. BCAS did an urgent post about me and how I so needed a family of my own for my remaining years and well, as you can tell by my photo, I have a family and I am very much loved! I have young kids to play with me and pet me. It was worth the wait to have this family as my own.
Greetings from Ozzy! I entered the shelter in March of 2019 as a stray wandering the streets. I was a BCAS resident for 915 days. I didn't think I was ever going to get a home. I was adopted out once for a few months but I became overly protective and had to be returned. Everyone knew what a good boy I was at the shelter and they worked really, really hard to find a family with no pets because I wasn't sure at the time if I could reside with another pet. One day a wonderful family, who wasn't really looking for another pet but was moved by my story, inquired about me and asked if I could be a pal to their current dog. The meet and greet went well, I walked along side my soon to be dog friends so we could get acquainted slowly and it all went well and the rest is history! Here I am on the left with Lucky and Benji celebrating my first holiday with my new family!
