Humane Fort Wayne

Blackford County Animal Shelter offers a low cost spay and neuter program through Humane Fort Wayne. You are not required to be a Blackford resident to sign up; anyone may sign up for this program.

2023 Prices are listed below. Please note that there is a chance for additional charges. Extra charges are decided by Humane Fort Wayne pending each animals needs.

Animals must be at least 3 pounds and 12 weeks old and in good health. All dogs sent on transport must be under 80 pounds. Senior animals must have a blood panel completed before surgery. A senior animal is an animal 8 years and older (or 5 years and older for a giant breed). Spay/neuter is a major surgery; all animals must be healthy prior to surgery. Animals deemed unhealthy by Humane Fort Wayne may be rejected. In order to help prevent post surgery incision site complications an E-collar will be mandatory for all owned animals. The E-collar is now included in the surgery fee.

To sign up, please print the form using the link below. Fill out form and bring it along with payment (cash only) to Blackford County Animal Shelter during public hours. Space is limited! Completing paperwork and paying reserves your spot. If a transport is full, you will be placed in the next available transport. Transport fills up quickly especially during kitten season so sign up asap.

Blackford County residents on any type of government assistance may qualify for PUP prices. Which are $65 per dog and $40 per cat, this fee includes alter and rabies vaccination. Please note that ONLY Blackford residents on government assistance qualify for PUP prices. (You must provide proof of residence and assistance to qualify).

Drop off/Pick up location is at the Shelter: 2520 N 200 E, Hartford City, IN. Animals MUST be at the Shelter and ready to go by 3:45 pm the DAY BEFORE the scheduled surgery date. Transport will not wait on late individuals. Animals will return to the Shelter the DAY OF the scheduled surgery date. Pick up time at the Shelter is 5:30 pm the DAY OF the scheduled surgery date.

All animals 3 months and older are required to have their rabies vaccination. A rabies certificate must be shown, a rabies tag does not count. If no proof of rabies is provided or the animal does not have a rabies vaccination; Humane Fort Wayne must administer a rabies vaccination. The cost of the rabies vaccination is the responsibility of the owner.
