Benji's Story

Benji is a 3-4 year old beagle that came to our shelter in May of 2021. He was a typical beagle when he arrived. He was friendly and playful at first, but as time passed, he became scared, depressed and began lashing out aggressively towards the shelter staff. This behavior only prolonged his time at the shelter because it is not easy adopting out a dog that shows fear and aggression.
     In early February, BCAS did a Facebook post seeking a beagle rescue to pull Benji. Maybe you saw it? We asked the public to help us find a rescue for Benji because without their help, we feared Benji would have to be euthanized. We received a lot of positive and helpful comments but also a few negative ones. We get it, euthanization is a tough subject and should never be taken lightly. It is absolutely the last resort at our shelter. But BCAS knew Benji would flourish in the care of a rescue that specializes in his breed and that has time to devote to his training. We spent hours reaching out to those rescues and unfortunately, no one came to his rescue. We were very concerned that Benji was not going to get the chance he deserved.
     Until one day we received an email from Beans Beagle Rescue inquiring about Benji. They are a beagle rescue out of Southern California who had someone in Ohio that was part of their organization that was willing to come and meet Benji and assess his situation. On March 13th, 5 weeks after our post, Benji was loaded up and headed to a new life full of love and attention! Benji currently can be found lounging on the couch, romping with his new best friends and getting belly rubs on a regular basis.
