Our adoption fees have changed!

Why did our fees increase?

Dramatically Increased Spay/Neuter Cost

The cost that BCAS pays to have an animal spayed/neutered has went up dramatically over the years.  If we want to continue helping homeless pets then we can not continue to absorb this cost. 99.8% of the animals we intake need altered and it is required by state law before adopting out.

Longer Stays

Being a No Kill/Low Kill shelter, many pets have a long stay.  Providing for pets long term while they wait for their special families costs money, lots of money. That is why we depend on adoption fees and donations so heavily.

Cost of Supplies are Higher

Anyone with a pet knows the true expense of food, litter, medications, vet visits, etc. Our shelter uses roughly 350-400 lbs of litter per week!  Adoption fees alone does not cover this cost.  We rely on donations to help with this.

Overhead Costs are Higher

Our annual intake of pets are posted on our website. The more animals we take in, the more staff we need to provide care.  Employees, insurance, electricity, fuel for dispatch calls and vehicle and building maintenance all have associated costs that are not fixed.

Current Adoption Fees are Below

At the end of the day, our fees are still cheaper than free pets and pets from breeders.  You will have hundreds of dollars more to spay/neuter, vaccinate and vet an animal from places other than shelters and rescues.  Stop supporting breeders and make a difference in the life of a shelter pet.
